A Maplewood police officer ended up with a broken finger in a fight with a 31-year-old man who resisted arrest at the Maplewood Walmart on Thursday.

The suspect was charged with assault on a police officer (two of them), resisting arrest, stealing, and having a concealed weapon after an officer saw the man apparently stealing merchandise on surveillance cameras at Walmart Thursday around 5:30 p.m.

Maplewood Sgt. Matt Nighbor said the man was “acting bizarre,” getting close to women and frightening them; then he was seen stealing.

During the arrest police saw that the man had a razor blade in one hand when he started fighting. A Maplewood officer’s finger was broken in the fight.

Nighbor said the man could face additional charges.
