Suspected shooter arrested in Maplewood

The suspected gunman in an ambush that wounded a St. Louis police officer earlier this week was arrested Thursday morning in Maplewood, in the 2200 block of Yale Avenue. according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Dale Wolford, 24, of the 4300 block of St. Ferdinand Avenue is believed to have shot the officer as he sat in his parked personal car near Maryland and Euclid avenues Tuesday morning. The officer was in full police uniform and was working a second job as a security officer.

Wolford has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of armed criminal action and discharging a firearm at a vehicle, the Post-Dispatch reports.

Two other suspects have been arrested and a fourth turned himself in. Police told the Post-Dispatch the shooting was recorded on surveillance video. It has not been publicly released.

The exchange of shots left at least 14 bullet holes in the windshield of the sergeant’s car. Some were from shots he fired, police said. The officer was treated and released from Barnes-Jewish.

Maplewood Police Department said all comments on the arrest would come from St. Louis city police.
