A similar theft took place in Maplewood in the 7700 block of Jerome Avenue, and there was an attempted auto theft in the 2500 block of Bredell Avenue.

On Bredell, the victim saw the suspect get into the car, and used a kill switch to turn it off. The suspect fled in a grey vehicle with no plates. The suspect was described as a black male in his early twenties dressed in a red hoodie.

Maplewood Chief of Police Steve Kruse said people have to be careful.

“People have a tendency, either at home, or at a store to get a coffee; they leave their car running while they’re inside. There’s somebody standing out there waiting to get in. You have be careful,” he said.
