Latisha White, 18, of East St. Louis, was charged with stealing packages off a FedEx hand truck while left unattended in a service corridor at the Galleria, according to police and court records.

The packages contained an Apple computer and a diamond ring from Helzberg Diamonds; valued at more than $15,000. The theft was captured on surveillance video.

Several weeks later, White and a juvenile suspect were arrested at the Galleria Apple store in connection with an investigation in an unrelated theft. Inside a duffle bag carried by the juvenile was a laptop computer that had been in one of the stolen packages. White confessed that she had sold a diamond ring from one of the Helzberg Diamonds packages to a pawnshop in St. Louis city.
