Remains of missing Maplewood woman found

The remains of Barbara Johnson, of Maplewood, were found near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks along Manchester Avenue near Tamm Avenue, police sources said, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Wednesday.

Johnson had last been seen on May 16 in the 7200 block of Manchester Road. Her purse and belongings were found a few days later in the middle of a busy street in front of her apartment.

A worker for Union Pacific Railroad spotted a severed leg inside a black tennis shoe and a piece of black pants while inspecting the tracks.

St. Louis police are calling the case a “suspicious death.” It is being handled by homicide detectives.
