The remains of Barbara Johnson, of Maplewood, were found near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks along Manchester Avenue near Tamm Avenue, police sources said, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Wednesday.
Johnson had last been seen on May 16 in the 7200 block of Manchester Road. Her purse and belongings were found a few days later in the middle of a busy street in front of her apartment.
A worker for Union Pacific Railroad spotted a severed leg inside a black tennis shoe and a piece of black pants while inspecting the tracks.
St. Louis police are calling the case a “suspicious death.” It is being handled by homicide detectives.
