Brentwood city officials are set to meet Saturday morning in a ‘workshop meeting’ to talk about the future of Brentwood’s city hall and the future of the Manchester Road corridor, particularly east of Brentwood Boulevard, according to the agenda.

The meeting will not be at Brentwood City Hall, but at the Masonry Institute of St. Louis, 1429 S. Big Bend, Richmond Heights, scheduled at 8:30 a.m.

Mayor Chris Thornton said in an email that workshop meetings are more productive when they are held off site. “In a less familiar environment, participants are more open to discussion and ideas they are less comfortable with in the more formal, usual setting.”

The agenda also includes a presentation by city attorney, Kevin O’Keefe on redevelopment tools.

It is an open meeting and all are welcome to attend.

  1. Here is an idea, how about instead of insinuating Mayor Thornton and the city is doing something wrong, show up, listen ask questions and make informed decisions. Its sad so many of you anomous posters feel the need to bad mouth everything before you even have the facts. Financially the city is in a good place, that doesn’t happen by making bad decisions. Give it a fair chance before you condem it.

  2. Saturday? How many Saturdays are there in a month? What date is the Saturday on this year ? I do not see any date mentioned in the article. Why is this meeting in a Union Hall. Most Republicans would not be seen in a Union Hall. That would be as bad as having a slush fund and getting donations from Saudia Arabia.

  3. The cost and restrictions to stop the flooding will be very expensive. Until that gets fixed i cant imagine anyone spending any significant development dollars down there. Just my opinion

  4. Be advised: When a mayor holds a public meeting on matters of importance to his constituents, and he holds it at 8:30 on a Saturday morning when many of them are asleep, and he holds it in another city, there’s only one true explanation: He wants as few of them to attend as possible. But you’d think Mr. Thornton could have come up with something better than that zany explanation that residents are more open-minded in unfamiliar settings. Lord!

  5. Can we imagine a school down in that area? All of our schools are in areas where traffic is better controlled around the schools if need be. The schools are in residential neighhoods, what better setting could anyone want. The only students who really have a problem crossing a street is at Manchester and High School Drive, and the city covers that crossing with a Police Officer. Crossing Brentwood is covered by traffic lights for those students who are not cottled and walk to school in groups. Yeah, put the school and city hall in a flood plain. Besides having no school on snow days the students can be off for flood days and go fishing in Deer Creek.

  6. Kelly had expressed a desire to have city hall and possibly a school in the area behind the Colt building, problem was the city didn’t own the land and the rear plot floods. I figured when the city garage moved near there it wouldn’t be long before the plan would be revisited along with major retail and multi family development. Look for the usual suspects: “retired” TIF attorney, developers and contractors. Yawn…..

    • Yeah, he really went down in flames on that one. It was really satisfying to watch him ask for and be denied a blank check. Classic over reach.
So I know who the developers & contractors buzzing around the city treasury for so long are, but not the TIF attorney. Who are we talking about?

  7. I agree. Sewers, utility poles, widening, turn lanes. All need to be addressed.
    One question-
Why is this meeting being held in the contractor headquarters?
These are the guys who stand to benefit if they get involved in any proposed work on the pavement/sidewalks/parking lots.
    This is from their website-

“Five voting members of the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis, Missouri comprise the Board of Trustees which gives oversight to the operations of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis.”

Isn’t this like the textbook definition of “appearance of impropriety”?
Who in city govt. is their contact?
Who arranged to hold this meeting at the contractors office?
Don’t we have a community center for events like this?
    What the hell man?

  8. I would love to see something done to Manchester Road. I have lived in Brentwood off of Manchester Road for 30 years. There have not been any improvements since I’ve lived here.
