The incident was following an away basketball game. The Brentwood Police Department has reported on the incident on its website.
Last week, Brentwood High School notified the Police Dept. of an incident concerning an 18-year-old student who had brought a handgun, in his backpack, on a bus, to a school event. The handgun was not displayed in a threatening manner. Our officers conducted a complete and thorough investigation. On Friday, the student was charged by the St Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office with Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The Police Dept. and the Brentwood School district worked closely during this investigation. A letter from the school district was sent to all parents last week. We appreciate the cooperation of the school district in working with us to get this right. Mutual communication is key, and we achieved that last week.
Parents should take this opportunity to stress the importance of communication to their children. Your kids should be empowered to report illegal activity to you, or to school or law enforcement officials, as soon as they are aware it has happened.
