Brentwood Superintendent of Schools David Faulkner announced in a letter mailed to students’ homes that he told the board of education in the fall that he plans to retire. Faulkner was appointed superintendent in July, 2012.

Faulkner first entered the district in 2004 as the high school principal. He became assistant to the superintendent in 2008. He worked in the Clayton and Ladue school districts before coming to Brentwood.

He will complete his thirtieth year in education in June, and will be officially retired on July 1, 2017.  He will turn 53 years old this month.

Faulkner’s announcement:

After thirty years in public education, I decided that this year is an opportune time for me to step aside for the next generation of educational leadership. By retiring now, I will have time to spend with my aging parents, who made it possible for me to have the career that took me so far from home, and with my youngest child, who is just two years away from leaving my own home for college. My thirteen years with the Brentwood School District have been the most enjoyable of my career, and I am profoundly grateful to the Brentwood Board of Education, the talented staff, the amazing students, and the Brentwood community for the opportunity to have a served as high school principal, as assistant to the superintendent, and finally as superintendent. Because I made my decision early in the fall, the board will have ample time to work with the Missouri School Boards’ Association to recruit an outstanding candidate for this exciting and rewarding position.

  1. I wish to echo Speak Now’s wise suggestion: Dr. Ed Johnson strikes me as the best candidate to succeed Dr. Faulkner as the leader of the Brentwood Public Schools. Ed would make a very capable superintendent. If he would like the position, I hope the school board will offer it to him.

  2. This would be a good time to promote Dr. Ed Johnson. I believe him to be well qualified and he has been in this school district for quite a few years and I am sure he knows his way around the administration enough to be an excellent leader.

Good luck David you have guided the school district very well and know you will enjoy being with your parents.
