Future Maplewood restaurant sommelier competes nationally

St. Louis sommelier, Andrey Ivanov, took third in the Guild of Sommeliers TopSomm competition held April 19 in Sonoma, California, according to Sauce Magazine. Ivanov plans to open Reeds American Table in Maplewood (7322 Manchester Road) with former Taste executive chef Matt Daughaday in June.

photo(16)He reached the national level in California after successfully scoring in the top eight in an online preliminary competition and winning the regional finals in Chicago. Eight sommeliers, six regional winners and two wild cards competed. It included theory, practical skills and a blind tasting.

Ivanov will compete next in the Chaine des Rotisseurs’ Young Sommeliers Competition in Santa Barbara, California, then go to Aspen, Colorado, for the service and tasting portion of the Master Sommelier exam.
