Wind gusts as high as 55 MPH, according to the National Weather Service, caused havoc in Maplewood Thursday afternoon around 5 p.m. as a front moved through.
Parts of roofs blew off Claude’s Auto Service and Tint Tech on Big Bend Boulevard north of Flora Avenue. At Claude’s, pieces of the roof blew onto cars on the lot. At Tint Tech the roof flew up and knocked over power lines and a gas line was broken. The gas break was mitigated within 20 minutes.
Maplewood and Shrewsbury police and fire departments blocked northbound Big Bend traffic while crews worked.
Traffic was detoured onto Flora and Sutton.

Power still out in the 7400 block of Lyndover since 4:30 Thursday night. Ameren’s outage center reports it may be out until 6 p.m. tonight.
