Brentwood Mayor Pat Kelly speaks to residents on Friday at the monthly coffee.

Brentwood Mayor Pat Kelly held his monthly coffee at city hall Friday with a few more than a dozen residents attending. He spoke and answered questions for about an hour:

The transition from Brentwood using its own dispatchers to using the East Central Dispatch Center will “be online” by June 1. ECDC dispatch will hire three new dispatchers, and there is a chance that former Brentwood dispatchers could be hired.

The new Brentwood fire truck has been delivered; the cost is in the $700,000’s. It will be the primary truck for emergency rescues in the area. The fire department will hold an open house in May; Kelly didn’t know the exact date.

Answering a question, Kelly said in Brentwood, if you call a Brentwood ambulance, there is no charge. If you have insurance, or if your medicare or medicaid would cover ambulance service, the city applies for that after the use. If there is a mutual aid run, Brentwood charges for service outside the city of Brentwood.

The Backstoppers barbecue is June 7 on the City Hall parking lot, and the barbecue pit is impressive. All proceeds go to Backstoppers.

Lawn Care Equipment has bought the former C&E Auto Parts building.

A proposed dog park in the location of the now demolished Executive Walk Apartments will need MSD approval because it’s in a flood plain.

A five-acre area along Deer Creek that Kelly had hoped to excavate to alleviate flooding on Manchester Road is part of the former Petrolite Corp. property, which continues to be tested for underground contamination, so excavation isn’t possible now. Kelly said that Petrolite at one time produced napalm.

Kelly would like the businesses along Brentwood Boulevard to decorate with white lights this Christmas.

Construction for the Bonefish Grill restaurant, next to the new Drury Inn, will begin around May 1.

A search for a new chief of police is underway. Steven Disbennett retired from the job this month.

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (8790 Manchester Road) is moving out of Brentwood.

The Thorntons are still waiting for final clearance from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to build a new insurance office on Brentwood Boulevard across from Starbuck’s.

Kelly said he tried to get in to talk to the county executive about refinishing Brentwood Boulevard Thursday, but was unsuccessful. He said the county exec. has his cell number and will call.

Cool. Glad something is going in there. So what about that vacant lot on the east side a bit further north? There was something there, they tore it down a few years ago, and planted grass seed there. Granted, it’s not an eyesore, but somebody’s paying property tax on a very prime spot on Brentwood Blvd not far from I-64, and not getting any revenue from it.
