A Maplewood man who faced second-degree murder charges was acquitted by a St. Louis County jury Thursday, STL Today reports.

Tyaaron D. Harris, 28, of the 7200 block of Anna Avenue, was acquitted of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Laron L. Taylor, 37, last summer in Webster Groves.

Charles L. Barberio IV, one of Harris’s lawyers, said that Harris fired in self-defense after he was attacked by a group of people, STL Today reported Thursday.

Barberio said Harris escaped from the crowd, then pulled out the handgun and fired before running away.
