Police: 30 tax fraud reports

The following information was supplied by the Maplewood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

  • Multiple tax fraud reports were filed during this period.  For the year, Maplewood Police have taken approximately 30 tax fraud reports.
  • Nothing to report for April 6th and April 7th

Wednesday, April 8

  • Police arrested a 49-year-old man for shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.
  • Someone slashed the back tires of two vehicles in the 7800 block of Manchester between 5 p.m. on April 7 and 7:30 a.m. on April 8.
  • Police arrested a 24-year-old woman for shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.
  • Police arrested a 46-year-old man and a 44-year-old male for stealing merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business. One suspect was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were also wanted by other agencies for active warrants.
  • Police arrested a 29-year-old man for stealing approximately $110 in merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.  The suspect was also charged with resisting arrest by flight.  After a short foot pursuit, police were able to take him into custody.  Drug paraphernalia was also discovered on his person.

Thursday, April 9

  • Police arrested a 37-year-old driver for driving while intoxicated as a result of a traffic accident investigation conducted in the 7300 block of Manchester.  The man was charged through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with Driving While Intoxicated – Persistent Offender (Class D Felony). Bond was set at $10,000.
  • Police are investigating the fraudulent use of a credit device in the amount of $224 which was conducted at a business in the 7300 block of Manchester.
  • Police arrested a 56-year-old man for shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons
  • Police arrested a 22-year-old woman on disorderly conduct charges after an officer witnessed two females involved in an altercation in the middle of the street on Manchester at Bellevue.  The other female involved fled in a gold colored vehicle. The 22-year-old suspect refused to identify her friend she was involved with in the physical altercation.

Friday, April 10

  • A 2014 Ford Taurus was stolen from the 2600 block of S. Big Bend. The vehicle was running at the time with the keys in the ignition. Police are reviewing video surveillance in an effort to identify the suspect(s). The vehicle has not been recovered as of this time.

Saturday, April 11

  • Police arrested a 56-year-old woman for damaging her neighbor’s property in the 2500 block of Oakland. The woman was also charged with disturbing the peace, failure to comply, and resisting arrest.

Sunday, April 12

  • Police are investigating the theft of a wallet which occurred on April 12. The reporting party dropped his wallet at a Maplewood Commons business which contained multiple credit cards and money. One of the victim’s credit cards was then fraudulently used at another location outside Maplewood. Police reviewed video surveillance where the victim lost his wallet and discovered a man picked up the wallet and hid it on his person. Police have since identified the suspect and are attempting to locate him.

  1. Far to many shoplifting incidents at Maplewood Commons… I’m sure it drains resources for the local police…and the consumer who picks up the tab… Put Em in a cage out front till they go to jail!
