Corey Smale, co-owner of Strange Donuts, with three locations in the St. Louis area in just a little over a year, announced on Facebook Friday that Strange Donuts is buying the Rams football team.

At least the donut shop is going to try, Smale told 40 South News Friday.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been making moves to take the team back to LA, and Smale wants to keep it in St. Louis.

“What’s going to happen? Are they going to stay? Are they going to go? I’d like to have a big hand in having them stay here,” Smale said.

He said he’d be happy to own some of all of the team. “We’ve got to keep them in St. Louis, that’s what it’s all about.”

Smale admits the proposal is unusual, but says he’s serious about being part of the discussion to keep the team in St. Louis.

“It’s a very unique opportunity,” he said. “Us, being a donut shop, to purchase a professional football team, so I’m just putting it out there for now.

“We believe in St. Louis. This is our time. St. Louis is on the rise—certainly isn’t the time to be losing things—especially the Rams,” he said.

Smale said Strange and the Rams are friends. Strange donuts have been offered at Rams games this year.

He said he’d rather not divulge how much it might take or how much he hopes to raise. He said they’re getting a bid going and getting people involved.

Who knows? With Strange Donuts’ more than 23,000 Facebook fans it could work.

“We put it out there and we’ll go from there. If they’re interested, we are interested,” he said.

  1. Can’t the Rams just leave and take all this ridiculous talk about spending millions of tax dollars on another hideous stadium with them?

So over the Rams and everything involved with their hype.

  2. Seriously? This may be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard today. How do they plan on raising the money?
