Mike Schneider, of the 2000 block of Bland in Maplewood, said the dog accused of biting another dog in the area of Williams and McCready avenues, reported by Maplewood Police, was not his dog.

The woman who reported the attack told police she was walking her dogs and a “pit bull mix” attacked her Labrador, which suffered multiple injuries and had to be euthanized.

Maplewood police reported they located the dog the next day at a residence in the 2000 block of Bland, and St. Louis County Animal Control took custody.

Craig Lefebvre, media contact for St. Louis County Animal Control, said the dog matched the description of the attacking dog, but the injuries made couldn’t have been made by the dog they picked up. He said the dog was returned to the owner.

Schneider said his dog is a “mutt” and was inside at the time of the attack. He said his dog is the same color as the reported attacking dog – brindle colored. He said he was worried because the vicious dog is still on the lose.

Maplewood Police Sergeant Matt Nighbor said they are still investigating the incident.

  1. I have NO IDEA what I would do in that situation. I carry a pocket knife, but I don’t know how close that I would want to get to the fight.

  2. So sad that the lab had to be put to sleep. It must have been a very traumatic experience for the owner.
