According to Maplewood City Manager Amber Withycombe and a defendant, the suit filed in August 2024 by Brad Jackson against the city of Maplewood, Maplewood Mayor Barry Greenberg, Kate Bethel, owner of Maven Bath and Candle Co. and Isaac Chosich, an employee at Maven, has been resolved.

“The City can confirm that the litigation has been resolved,” Withycombe said. “For context, the City itself was dismissed from the lawsuit last summer. The City’s involvement in the settlement was agreeing to release Mr. Jackson from any claims the City may have had related to the suit, in exchange for a reciprocal release from him. The matter is closed.”

Defendant Kate Bethel said Jackson received $7,500, and that she and Chosich got $7,500 to split between the two of them ($3,750 each), adding that the amount allowed them to break even with their legal representation fees. According to Mayor Barry Greenberg the payments came from the city’s insurance carrier.

Bethel said that “out of the eight counts on Isaac’s motion for summary judgment, six of the accusations against Brad were found truthful, while two were remained ‘undetermined’.” See the judge’s decision with details.

  1. There was a huge FOIA request related to this, and the information is EASY to find if someone wants to understand the full context.

Indeed-all public-casenet and pacer. I think most of us have the “full context” alright. Only one person in this shi& show has multiple casenet entries and lied/perjured himself. Only one person has publicly harassed and berated multiple members of this community on the regular. Only one person filed a meritless ethics complaint about a sitting council member that was dismissed.

“Megan”-how bout u slither back to the Village where the zombies lap up this slop with no questions? I hear there is an alleged death threat vm making the rounds here in Maplewood-u know anything about that?

    • I hope you get the help you need, Don Miller.

How many fake accounts do you have? Don’t you, yourself, have some charges pending? At some point, you’ll have to acknowledge that you’re the true villain in our community.

For myself, I don’t know half of what you are talking about, but if it’s your goal to convey that you’re dangerously obsessed with Brad Jackson, you’re doing great.

      • Hi there,”Anon/Meg”-someone notified me ur at it again. Yes-the “true” villain-delusional as always. I’m not intimidated by you or your ugly little following. You deflect so well, but that is your superpower, right?

Again-keep my name out of your filthy mouth-I can do this all day. What you describe as “obsessed” is merely you being held accountable for your actions. You hope I get the help I need-wow-that is rich coming from you.

Go away-oh and when will ub donating that $7500 to Maplegood since it was never about the money…eye roll. We’re done here-get outside and grill today-beautiful weather for it.

    • Who are you to talk to me that way? Are you for real?

      What a vile human.

The FOIA I’m talking about is the one showing that the mayor authored an ethics complaint and then asked a local business owner to sign it as her own, saying “this should serve to have Brad Jackson removed from his appointment” and then offered her an appointment in return.

Trying to distract from that is pathetic and laughable. I don’t care if Jackson killed somebody, it doesn’t change what we’ve seen PROVEN.

I’m done engaging with such pathetic people. I have a feeling ALL of the negative comments here are made by the same person. Sure would be interesting if someone subpoenaed the records from 40South. Anonymous is only anonymous until IP addresses are connected.

Certain folks would do well to remember that.

Is there a concern that the city’s ethics policy has become a punchline to these absurd lawsuits–who the hell would ever file another ethics complaint after what happened here? I have personally experienced how Maplewood MO conducts business. This is why I am in favor of St. Louis and St. Louis County merging services. Small-town politics acts like Third World countries.

    • Ummm he def WILL continue doing that via that vile MRH Village-a one stop shop for all the Maplewood cult members. Narcissists never stop.

  3. Well, that says it all. Innocent people don’t settle. I stayed neutral through this, but now we know. What does this mean for the mayor? Does he keep getting to be the mayor?

  4. Word on the street is that Barry’s insurance paid, not the city. 40 South, do better.

Word is also that the other 2 defendants spent much more than they received for indemnity.

    Lots of little “mistruths” here.

    • “Done” with drama, eh? Sounds like you are the source of drama. Innocent people settle alllll the time to avoid more frivolous legal fees-let’s not forget that the other two cases were dismissed outright by a federal judge because they were laughable.

Dude got $7500 and word on the street is that he still owes HIS lawyer several thousand.

Brad-if ur reading this, don’t forget about the upcoming hearing on the restraining order issue AND the disabled guy who is going after you for allegedly not paying him back on that signed contract for the loan. Wear something decent to court for god’s sake.

      • That’s very interestomg, considering the city was dismissed from the suit. Why would the city pay?

        • Are you at all concerned that the city’s ethics policy has become a punchline to these absurd lawsuits–who the hell would ever file another ethics complaint after what happened here? We have ethics rules in place for a reason and that reason isn’t to benefit bullies and con artists who exploit the system with ambulance chasing lawyers. People like u seem more focused on enabling bullies than truly wanting a “clean” city hall.

Why would the city pay? How about why was this meritless BS filed to begin with? Oh yeah-two of the suits were already summarily dismissed WITH prejudice.

Do better and focus on the REAL problem, ok?

          • What a wild take.

It’s fascinating watching anybody act like the issue is whether people should be afraid to file ethics complaints.

What’s actually worth paying attention to is how the complaint itself came together, who was involved in that process, and what’s already been documented publicly about it. There was a huge FOIA request related to this, and the information is EASY to find if someone wants to understand the full context.

Also, the idea that this lawsuit was somehow baseless doesn’t line up with reality. The case moved forward, despite the continued assertion that the court dismissed parts. Cases like this often have pieces thrown out. The real story is that it did NOT get dismissed, legal representation changed, and it ultimately resolved through a settlement. That’s not how meritless cases end.

It’s fair to have opinions about Brad Jackson. People clearly do. But whether or not he’s a charlatan, that does not excuse what we all saw the mayor do. Dismissing everything that happened here as nothing, or pretending there aren’t legitimate questions raised by the record, doesn’t hold up to even to most simple scrutiny.

If anything, this situation says more about how quickly narratives form in a small community than it does about any one person involved. I, for one, am wildly disappointed in our mayor. I believe that he owes the entire community an apology, and attempting to frame this as “one guy scammed our town” when we have equal access to evidence is simply disingenuous.

And I think you know that.
